Leather or canvas ballet flat?

My niece, aged 11 years is starting ballet lessons in February (first time) and his mother has no idea what shoes to get. I therefore find for (15 years in ballet). So, what can better be Canvas or leather, I started painting w / but I'm still not sure?

For a beginner 11 years, I would go with leather. It will need leather to help build the arches in place and it lasts longer. One canvas is divided for a more advanced dancer.
