Am I able to dye a black shirt, gray or would it turn weird?

I have light cotton T-shirt gray I want black. Could I go in a craft store and buy black fabric dye? Would it turn weird? What about a light green shirt because I would do it too. I do not know if you can dye white shirts or not. Thank you!

A cotton shirt should dye very well in black and you can make in your washing machine. Just follow the instructions on the dyeing of fabrics.
