How big a boat should I buy for Cross Lake - NY

I want to buy a weekend for my cottage on Lake Cross - it is in NYS just west of Syracuse. The lake is about 4.5 / 5 miles long and about 0.4 miles at the narrowest part ... but more like 0.7 miles wide. I'm looking at 22 footers - can I go b / c I do not plan to use it for weekends Finger Lakes or Lake Ontario. My lake connects the Erie Canal ..... if I can get almost anywhere I go. Supplementary Note - this is my wife, my Golden Retriever, and myself. Please no answers like ... at least 10 feet. I love my wife but I'm not going to spend a weekend with my wife on a boat 11 feet. Generally, I want to know what the upper limit on the size of the boat would be my lake. How big can I go without the boat being too large to the lake. I am very familiar with the Cross Lake, too, Finger Lakes and in particular the Erie Canal. I kept my 36 footer in a marina near Rochester on the channel - for 7 years and then moved down to Buffalo Niagara on the Lake Erie thereafter. What beautiful country you have boat in. My family and especially my children (now adults) are very fond memories of boating on the Canal "Basket Factory" and the Finger Lakes with all the wineries and vineyards ... You're on the right track regarding your concerns about size. However, I think you'll be good to go almost everything you want in the measure of "length" is to be feared. Your only real limit is currently being 'project'. If I for you, I (and you may not like that), but I would seriously consider a small catamaran. - Open the airy cabin on deck bridge, unmeasurable keel, properly speaking, and the draft very shallow - (you can even beaches). Of course, I do not know how your wife takes Sailing - (I know that the dog will love it. lol) However, in a catamaran you do not tilt, so the woman can fix your lunch on the boat without having to undergo an angle of 20 degrees - and you can eat without having to put in an hour. (just a thought). Thus, if your question is in fact how big can you go - WOW! I would say that you do not want to go so big that you dewarf Lake ... lol Your "plan" is really the only concern. I run these waters in a 36 'with a project just under 6' nearly 14 years in total, and never had any real problems (the absolute moments of panic - and periods of extreme concern - yes!), but never any damage. WOW! What wonderful memories - and this wonderful boat! Who knows - with the boat right - you and your two crew members may decide to take off and go around "the big loop" ...
