What are small white moths that are visible to the naked eye and are found in the house?

Hello, I always have problems with small white mites. No matter how much I own, they seem to return after short periods of time. They are the size of a full stop and I thought they may be dust mites, but all the info said mites are not visible without magnification. The are not limited to upholstery and can be found on any surface even if the dust seems to be the common factor, hence my assumption of mites. I was wondering if someone else had this trouble and what they did to resolve it. I would get rid of carpets and follow some radical plans for get rid of them, but unfortunately I live in rented accommodation and can not change the dish very much. Thank you.
